The Scarlet Letter - Before

I expect The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne to be a novel about the harsh punishments in the Puritan era. I anticipate this book to be about how this community would respond to a crime such as adultery.

I chose this book because I am interested in getting to know the Puritan community, their punishments, and how they treated others who had committed sin. I have not read anything about this topic, that is why I am so interested in starting to read about it.

I chose the same book, and for many of the same reasons as you did. I think it is going to be very interesting to see how this “sinner” will be prosecuted in her religion. Personally, I will look forward to comparing this story to today’s society, and seeing how different things were, etc. So happy reading Reg!

As someone who’s read The Scarlet Letter a few times, I just want to let you know that the actual book is WAY better/more readable/more interesting than the “Custom-House” section.

    Trust me.
